Noel Eugene Smith, age 77, of Monett, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, while at Cassville Health and Rehab following complications of COVID-19.

Noel was born on September 17, 1943 on the family farm in Purdy, MO, son of the late Luther and Dorothy (Miller) Smith. While growing up in Purdy, Noel attended Purdy Schools.

Noel retired from Tyson Foods, where he had worked for most of his working years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He loved sharing stories with them. He was a great father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

On December 10, 1963, Noel married Celia Melissa Eldridge. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2002.

Noel is survived by two sons, Noel Smith, Jr. and Albert Smith and wife Cherilee, all of Monett; three daughters, Marie Baxter, of Butterfield, Sally Robinson and husband David, of Monett and Christy Kerns, of Monett; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Jack Smith of Purdy, John Smith of Eldorado Springs, MO, Ronnie Smith of Sarcoxie, Frank Smith of Cassville and Fred Smith of Pierce City; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Noel was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Dorothy Smith; his step-mother, Velma Shelley; his wife, Celia Smith; three brothers, Paul Smith and Melvin and Willard Terry; and four sisters, Mary Smith, Loretta Smith, Martha Gunthrie and Charlotte Pratt.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Buchanan Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Holocker will be officiating. Interment will follow at Arnhart Cemetery, Purdy. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
