WASHINGTON, D.C. – Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar says an application for emergency use of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is expected today. As covid-19 continues to spread across the u-s, the CDC says Americans should cancel their thanksgiving plans… and not travel at all for the holiday. The total number of cases since the pandemic hit the U.S. is approaching 12 million, after hitting 11 million on Sunday.

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin City Council approves a new mask mandate for the community. The vote came last night after discussion and input from local health officials and the community. The mandate will go into effect immediately and will expire at 11:59 on February 28th of 2021. The measure passed six to three with Gary Shaw, Doug Lawson and Phil Stinnett voting no on the ordinance.

TOPEKA, Kan. – Kansas counties are considering mask mandates after the governor signed a second statewide mask mandate. Governor Kelly issued a new mask mandate Wednesday, giving counties that don’t have mandates seven days to draft their own alternatives, or opt out. Crawford County has a mask order and Allen county let the governor’s order in July take effect. In a two to one vote last night the Neosho County Commission voted to opt out of the governor’s new mandate. Other counties, including Wilson, Labette and Woodson, plan to discuss what they want to do as early as next week.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The number of hospitalizations in Oklahoma due to the coronavirus has surpassed 1,400 for a new one-day record. The Oklahoma State Department of Health Wednesday reported 1,434 people hospitalized, 53 more than the previous daily record set on Tuesday. The department reports 3,017 new cases and 26 additional deaths for totals of 161,425 cases and 1,500 and 70 deaths since the pandemic began.
