JOPLIN, Mo. – There’s a new holiday tradition coming to Joplin to brighten up the season.
Joplin Parks and Recreation, City of Joplin and the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau are teaming up to create the Holiday Tree Trail at Mercy Park.
Area businesses and organizations will be decorating trees that will be placed along a portion of the trail at Mercy Park and will be lit from November 24 through January 1, 2020. Guests can view the trees during park hours from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
While you’re checking out the trail, you’ll be able to pick your favorite decorated tree and vote for it in a tree decorating contest sponsored by Texas Roadhouse. Guests will be able to go online from November 24 through December 21 to vote.
That’s not all there is to go along with the new Holiday Tree Trail tradition.
The Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Mercy Hospital Joplin, will be hosting a Roll-n-Stroll Activity Challenge. Everyone is challenged to get outside and increase their activity during the holiday season.
“We thought this year was the perfect time to begin a new holiday tradition,” said Jessica Johnson, Recreation Coordinator. “This event, and all of the accompanying activities are outdoors and can be done with your household. It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit while getting outside and staying active while still keeping the recommended social distance from others.”
There will also be three special events.
The first event, on Nov. 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., will kick off the tree trail display and include refreshments, carolers and a meet and greet opportunity with a socially distanced Santa.
Two other family-friendly events are planned on December 5 and December 12.
All activities are free to participate. For more information about the Holiday Tree Trail, or other light displays in the City of Joplin, please visit www.joplinmo.org/holidaylights or call 417-625-4750.
