In an email Monday evening to parents, the district vowed to add support for struggling students including tutoring.

The district also encouraged any student in grades 9-12 who has not been successful in the virtual learning model to switch to the hybrid model for spring semester, which starts Jan. 4.

According to the email, the district intends to transitions to four or five days of in person learning for grades 9-12 as soon as possible during the spring semester.

The email said while efforts will be made to “restore a regular schedule,” the number of in person learning days may be altered during the spring semester due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Springfield, the largest district in Missouri, is surrounded by many smaller suburban and rural districts that offer a five-day in person option. However, in other parts of the state, there are large districts have remained hybrid or virtual only, especially in the upper grades.
