Gorillas blow out the Bluejays, 109-49, on Saturday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men’s basketball team made an emphatic start to the 2020-21 season with a 109-49 exhibition game victory over Tabor College Saturday (Nov. 14) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Five Gorillas scored in double figures in the contest with newcomers Gwarren Douglas Jr. and Bobby Arthur-Williams Jr. leading the way. Douglas scored a game high 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field. Arthur-Williams added 19 points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Antonio Givens II and Martin Vogts added 15 points apiece while Ike Moore chipped in with 10 points.

The Gorillas shot 59.7 percent from the field in the contest, converting on 46 of 77 attempts. Pitt State knocked down 14 3-point field goals in the contest as well.

Quentin Hardrict Jr. scored five points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a game high seven assists for the Gorillas. Moore and Ryan Pippens added six assists apiece. Vogts blocked three shots.

Tabor, which entered the game with a 3-1 overall record, got a team-leading 17 points from Leon Marcikic. He was the only Blue Jays player to reach double figures.

Pitt State will open the 2020-21 regular season next Saturday at Edmond, Okla., against MIAA rival University of Central Oklahoma.
