With overcast skies and a blustery wind, dozens of people arrived at Park Central Square on Saturday to celebrate the election results of the presidential election as well as local races.

The event was hosted by Black Lives Matter of Southwest Missouri, All Tribes United, Springfield NAACP, NAACP Economic Task Force, Grupo Latinoamericano, MO Jobs for Justice, MO Democrats and more.

Organizers thanked the crowd of about 100 for joining in the celebration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris winning against President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Democrat Betsy Fogle was also cheered for flipping the 135th House District by 76 votes and defeating Republican Rep. Steve Helms. Fogle, a public health worker, was the only candidate to flip a seat in Missouri’s General Assembly from one party to another this year.

House Minority Leader Crystal Quade was among several speakers to welcome Fogle.

“We were able to change the tide at the national level and we were able to make a gain in Greene County, but I want to make the point that our work is not done,” Quade said from the stage at Park Central Square.
