Wichita State basketball, coach Gregg Marshall to part ways

Former Missouri State basketball rival coach Gregg Marshall appears to be on his way out at Wichita State, according to multiple reports.

Reports follow Wichita State launching an investigation after several accusations of misconduct surfaced.

Jeff Goodman, a college basketball insider for Stadium, broke the news on Twitter on Tuesday evening. His six-month-long investigation into the program led to the initial investigation by the school.

The Athletic first broke the story in early October that school officials have interviewed players on the current Wichita State team and past teams. Notable allegations from the 2015-16 season include Marshall allegedly punching a player between the shoulders and near the neck.

Wichita State basketball head coach Gregg Marshall was the guest speaker at Coaches 4 Character Tuesday, Sept 17, 2019 at Relentless Church. Coach Marshall is a native of Greenwood, S.C.

Another allegation said Marshall followed a student who parked in his parking space and blocked him at an intersection, according to The Athletic. The report says Marshall attempted to punch the student through the driver’s window.

In the hours after The Athletic reported its story, Goodman wrote a story of his own with similar allegations.

Goodman’s story cited sources alleging Marshall physically and verbally abused members of the program and demeaned his players with ethnic and racial slurs. The story included allegations of Marshall choking an assistant coach in 2016-17. Marshall nor the assistant responded to Stadium’s request for comment.
