Branson ‘Adopt-A-Senior’ program sign-ups now available: Here’s how

The holidays can be lonely for many people, but especially older folks. One program hopes to bring Christmas cheer to its senior citizens in the Branson area.

This is the fifth year for the Adopt-A-Senior program, said Cindy Shook, director of Branson Parks & Recreation Department. This program is in coordination with the SeniorAge Area Agency on Aging and is designed to provide gifts, encouragements and more to area senior residents.

This program isn’t just for individual people to take part in.

“In the last several years, we’ve had businesses step up,” Shook said.

In 2019, the program served 242 seniors, she said.

“This year is even more important, due to COVID and what’s happening in isolation that a lot of seniors feel,” Shook said. “This will be a welcomed and positive thing in their lives.”

In-person meals were put on hold during the pandemic, but frozen meals can still be picked up or delivered, Shook said.
