CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – Danny Smith has secured his position as the Crawford County Sheriff for the next four years.

Smith defeated challenger J.J. Karlinger by 15 hundred votes, according to unofficial election results.

Smith first took office in April of 2019, when Sheriff Dan Peak retired from the position mid-term.

“So yeah, this is my first election so this was all new to me,” says Smith. “I think we did everything we could have done and think things went really good. We ran a clean campaign and we were ecstatic that everything came out the way we wanted it to.”

He says that in the roughly year and a half he’s been in office, he’s been able to accomplish quite a bit. So he’s looking forward to continuing that work for the community.

“I just want to continue what we’ve done for the next four years and leave a positive impact on the community. That’s our job. And like I said we’ve got a lot of great programs that we’ve done just in the last year and a half, and I just want to be able to continue to do that. And the next four years, I’m excited to see what we can do.”

J.J. Karlinger posted to his Facebook page after the election, congratulating Smith and thanking all of his supporters.

I want to thank all those who supported me during this and those who didn’t. Congratulations to Sheriff Smith. We ran…
