A 53-year-old inmate at the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield died Saturday from COVID-19 as the facility reported 170 inmate infections and 24 among staff.
Colin Bosby, who had long-term, pre-existing medical conditions that put him at risk for getting ill from COVID-19, tested positive for the virus on Sunday, Oct. 25, according to a Bureau of Prisons news release.
Over the weekend, medical facility staff found him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead by staff minutes later.
Bosby had been in custody at the facility in Springfield since Feb. 1, 2018, after being sentenced to more than 21 years in prison for receiving or distributing materials sexually exploiting minors.
As of Thursday, roughly 20 percent of inmates in the facility had active coronavirus cases, according to a tracker on the Bureau of Prisons website.
