Springfield Police Department assisting in Maryland Avenue shooting

The Springfield Police Department is assisting another agency with investigating a shooting on South Maryland Avenue.

At 3:45 p.m. Monday, law enforcement officers were called to the scene of a shooting at 1827 S. Maryland Ave. in central Springfield near Sunshine Street. 

Police Department spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey said the officers were helping another law enforcement agency with the investigation. She had few other details about the incident.

It is unclear whether anyone had died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
