The Springfield Police Department is assisting the Drug Enforcement Administration with investigating a shooting on South Maryland Avenue.
At 3:45 p.m. Monday, law enforcement officers were called to the scene of a shooting at 1827 S. Maryland Ave. in central Springfield near Sunshine Street.
Police Department spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey said the officers were helping another law enforcement agency with the investigation. She had few other details about the incident.
Andree Swanson, spokesperson for the DEA, confirmed Monday night that the DEA is the main agency involved in the incident.
Swanson said she could not elaborate on why the DEA was at the home in Maryland Avenue or what role the agency played in the shooting.
It is unclear whether anyone had died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
