Police say a man is in critical condition this week after he was assaulted Friday afternoon at Springfield’s Grant Beach Park.
Jasmine Bailey, spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the park after someone reported finding a man unresponsive on the concrete near the pavilion.
Bailey said officers were able to determine the man had been assaulted, and he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The man had not been shot, but instead he was physically assaulted, according to Bailey.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been announced in the case.
Officers had the pavilion surrounded by crime scene tape for some time as they investigated the scene over the weekend.
