James River Church Joplin holds Halloween Spectacular Drive-Thru event

JOPLIN, Mo. – Characters from Stars Wars, Frozen, Toy Story, Disney princesses and more lined the sidewalks of the James River Church in Joplin, greeting families during a ‘Halloween Spectacular Drive-Thru’ event.

“Even with everything going on this time, the community can still come together and pull something like this off for our kids I think it’s great” said Rocky Comfort resident, Mary Jo Parroct who was taking her two kids through the event.

The church holds a Halloween event every year, but officials knew they needed to come up with a safer method for fun due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Usually we have bounce houses and inflatables and a show, but again with all that’s happening this year we wanted to provide families with a safe alternative, so that’s why we’re doing a drive thru event” said Pastor, Justin Jahanshir.

Families received sanitized and sealed bags of Halloween candy and gifts as they made their way through the event.

Kids waved at their favorite characters and got a glimpse of some live animals.

“The team came up with this idea and we thought what a great opportunity to still welcome the community to James River Church and really have a great time with kids and families that are going to make memories, even amidst a crazy season like this” added Jahanshir.

More than 100 volunteers came out to help make the day possible for the kids.

“To see it all come together and watch our volunteers serve the way they do, it’s really just awesome to see it happen” said Jahanshir.

This was the first event held at the new location of the James River Church on South Maiden Lane.

They hold services on Wednesdays at 7pm and Sundays at 9am.
