PITTSBURG, Kan.  – On Saturday, Oct. 24, a total of 526 cyclists made their way to Pittsburg for the Gorilla Century Ride.

The lead group covered 100 miles in less than five hours.

The route starts at Pittsburg High School and travels to Big Brutus before looping north to Arma, Arcadia and back to PHS.

4-staters were joined by riders who came from as far away as Connecticut and Washington D.C.

The ride started in 2003 as a way to celebrate PSU’s 100th anniversary and the tradition is carrying on.

Next year, the group plans on expanding the event into two rides with a spring and fall edition.

The Gorilla Century Ride is normally held on Labor Day weekend.

It was pushed back due to COVID-19 concerns this year, but will return to its originally scheduled date in 2021, coinciding with Little Balkan Days.
