CLAREMORE/MIAMI, Okla. – The Rogers County, Oklahoma Sheriff issues a letter to Ottawa County residents endorsing sheriff candidate David Dean and calling out issues he has with current sheriff, Jeremy Floyd.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton says prior to this year he had no real dealings with Ottawa County or Sheriff Jeremy Floyd. But then, there was a fire at the Ottawa County Jail and the inmates needed somewhere to go. “We came to what we thought was a rescue mission there in a time of need.”

But Sheriff Walton says time kept ticking by and there was no real time frame on when the inmates would be going back. “Got really really frustrating when we couldn’t get calls back from him or answers.”

Ottawa County Sheriff Jeremy Floyd says, that’s not really the case. “Sheriff Walton has my cell number, never called or anything like that, I would have answered, he’s got my email, and every email he’s ever sent to me I responded back.”

Then came an issue over the invoice sent to Ottawa County for reimbursement. “We were able to recover our costs, but, Jeremy Floyd himself was the one that questioned some of the charges on there.”

According to Sheriff Floyd, he never got the invoice directly, instead, it went to county commissioners. Sheriff Floyd says there was a second part to the invoice for labor costs which he was unaware of so the county commissioners tabled paying the bill until they could figure it out. “We got a phone call about two days after that and it was the jail administrator apologizing for the second part of that invoice, it was a part of their payroll, that did not, it should not have been submitted with that invoice.”

After that was resolved, Sheriff Floyd says the invoice was paid. However, Sheriff Walton says in his recent dealings with Sheriff Floyd, he feels Sheriff Floyd doesn’t represent the law enforcement community. Sheriff Walton says “My dealings until Sheriff Jeremy Floyd is out of there, I want zero dealings with Ottawa County, I don’t like to have that attitude.” Sheriff Floyd says “If he states that then it is what it is on his part, and again, I’ve never had, I’ve never said anything bad about Sheriff Walton.”

We did reach out to candidate David Dean but did not receive a response.

ST. LOUIS — After a chilly Thursday afternoon across the bi-state region, diminishing winds and a clearing sky will set the stage for the coldest night so far this autumn for most of us. As the sun sets, temperatures will drop quickly. Winds will become light if not completely calm […]
