Joplin City Council discusses Christmas Parade precautions

JOPLIN, Mo – Joplin officials will be discussing the Christmas parade this evening, Oct. 12, 2020, during the regular City Council meeting.

The Council will be focusing on large gatherings and how they’ll handle them going forward for events, including the Christmas parade.

On August 17, Council voted to move to phase two of their reopening plan in response to COVID-19. Phase two fully reopened the city and removed occupancy limits on businesses, restaurants, and places of worship. The City Council also let the mask mandate expire, but in-person businesses like restaurants wear would still require face masks for workers.

Phase two allows for gatherings up to 250 people for indoor or outdoor events.

The parade is scheduled for December 1st, 2020. It’s held annually on the first Tuesday in December.

(This is an ongoing story and will be updated after the meeting)
