COVID-19 widespread testing is crucial to fighting the pandemic, but is there enough testing? The answer is in the positivity rates.

The state health department will be offering free COVID-19 testing Friday and Saturday in Springfield for people with or without symptoms of the virus.

The tests will be offered from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 3111 E. Battlefield Road.

People wanting to participate will need to register, which they can do at or by calling 877-435-8411.

You do not have to be a Greene County resident to participate.

This week’s event will be one of dozens DHSS has held throughout the state since the beginning of the pandemic, and the state will continue to offer similar events in the future.

“We continue to encourage anyone who feels they should be tested to get tested,” said Dr. Randall Williams, the state’s health director. “We have found these testing events have been greatly appreciated in the communities, and we are thankful that through the governor’s initiative we have developed the testing capacity to organize these user-friendly events throughout Missouri.”
