Springfield police said Monday that a motorcyclist has died after being involved in a crash early Saturday morning on the west side of town.

Gail Marriott, 56, died at the hospital Monday morning after his motorcycle crashed with another vehicle just after 2 a.m. Saturday in the 4300 block of West Chestnut Expressway, according to a news release from the Springfield Police Department.

The release says Marriott was westbound on Chestnut Expressway when he braked and was hit from behind by a 2011 Dodge Charger.

Police say the driver of the Charger stayed at the scene after the crash, and police are continuing to investigate what happened.
