Watching a former tropical storm in Central America
Our Tropical Update on this May 31st of 2020 will focus on just one area of interest in Central America. The storm just off the shores of El Salvador and Guatemala yesterday briefly turned into Tropical Storm Amanda before making landfall today. That former depression was centered over northern Guatemala this evening and is forecast to move northwestward close to the Bay of Campeche on Monday. With the possibility of this system moving back toward open water to start the week out, the environmental conditions would allow this to strengthen once again. That places the odds of this system becoming a depression once again over the next 5 days at 60%. Despite any future potential tropical development, this system will continue to produce heavy rainfall for parts of Central America as the week gets underway.
