JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Humane Society says it was the previous owner that stole a dog from the shelter on Tuesday (Jan. 14). They have contacted authorities to get the dog, Lillie McCoy, back. Lillie was scheduled to go to her new family today.

On Jan. 14th, the shelter posted to Facebook, asking for help in identifying two men in a photo. The shelter stated in part, “They stole a dog from our Big Dog area right at closing time yesterday. We are very concerned for our dog’s safety! Please contact us if you have any information.”

Today, shelter officials commented on their post, saying they found out who took the dog, “We have pulled down our original post as we have found out it was the previous owner that came in and stole the dog. Thank you to everyone for sharing. We are in the process of having local authorities contact this person so we can get her back to the shelter.”
