lightning strikes Baxter Inn

The Baxter Springs fire chief says the Baxter Inn is very lucky following Friday night’s lightning strike. While getting hit by lightning certainly isn’t lucky, the Baxter Inn is still quite fortunate that there wasn’t more damage.

Around 7:20 last night, Baxter Springs firefighters and firefighters from neighboring towns responded to a dispatch call about the inn and found minimal lightning strike damage on the roof and in the attic.

“There was about a half dollar size hole in the roof where lightning had came in, caught two to three ceiling rafters and we were able to quickly contain that and get that under control,” said Baxter Springs Fire Chief Gunnar Wixon.

The Baxter Inn was open for business Saturday. Chief Wixon says his team did a great job and wants to thank fire crews from Galena, Quapaw, and Columbus who also responded and assisted.
