Former Missouri lawmaker Jay Wasson, of Nixa, and two others will join the governing board ofÂ Missouri State University.
Gov. Mike Parson announcedÂ the three appointments Tuesday. Along with Wasson, he selected Lynn Parman of Parkville andÂ Christopher Waters, of Kansas City.
They will replace Kendall Seal and Gregory SpearsÂ â whose terms expired in 2019Â â plus fill an empty seat.
On Twitter, MSU President Clif Smart called Wasson, Parman and Waters “three great selections.”
All eight voting members of the MSU governing board are appointed by the governor âwith the input and consent of the Missouri SenateÂ âÂ toÂ serve six-year terms. There must be one, and no more than two, members from each state congressional district.
There is also a non-voting member, a current MSU student, who sits on the board.
Wasson, well known in southwest Missouri, recently served on the Tourism Commission.
He served as a state representative for the 141st District from 2002-2010 and served as a state senator for the 20th District from 2010-2018.
The Nixa High School graduate received multiple leadership and economic development appreciation awards during his legislative career.
Prior to his time in the legislature, the real estate developer was the Nixa mayor and a member of the Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce.
Parman,Â chief operating officer of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, previously served as president and CEO of the American Royal Association.
She was named to Ingramâs 40 Under 40 list recognizing Kansas Cityâs top business and community leaders under 40 years of age.
Parman has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State. She is also a graduate of the University of Oklahomaâs Economic Development Institute.
Waters, a financial advisor for the Hennings Waters Group Private Wealth Management at Baird & Co. in Kansas City, has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Much of his career was spent in the Institutional Equity Research Sales and Trading Department at George K. Baum & Company, Stifel Nicolaus and Oppenheimer. He has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State.
